Missing Information

Earlier this week was the Tax Classification hearing where the Select Board voted on the tax rates for the year. I was disappointed to see that the documentation for the meeting was incomplete.

For the past several years, there has been an Addendum D to the document which communicated the amount of Overlay Surplus (approx. $1.5 reported in the 2024 Classification Hearing last year.)

This started being reported because a few years ago it was a "surprise" to many town board members that this fund existed. As a result, it's specified in the Select Board's Financial Policies that "In advance of the annual Tax Classification Hearing, the Select Board shall request an update from the Board of Assessors on the balance of the overlay account."

I hope this was an oversight, and I hope that the documentation is corrected soon to reflect the current balance of this Overly Surplus.
